Christmas Festival

All the countries and nations of the world have their own festivals. They are occasions of great joy. They give a change and relief to the tried and troubled minds of the people.

Christmas is the greatest festival of Christians. It is celebrated with great enthusiasm. It comes on the 25^th December of each year. On this day Lord Jesus Christ was born.

Great preparations are made. All houses and churches are white washed. They are decorated with buntings, flowers, and pictures. They shops are also decorated beautifully.

The Christians get a Christmas tree home on this day. The tree is put on the centre of the house and decorated with lamps, toys, flowers, gifts, streamers, stars etc. it looks very beautiful. On the top of the tree a fairy is put. All the members of the house get together and sing prayers in praise of Lord Jesus. Gifts are exchanged. Greetings and beautiful Christmas cards are sent to friends and relatives on this occasion.

On the day all houses have a beautiful feast on the table. It consists of the finest things that the family can afford. The lady of the house mingles with the guest with joy and enthusiasm. Mince pies, turkey, cake, pudding are some of the delicacies on the table. After the feast everybody sings and dances. Children enjoy a lot. On Christmas Eve everybody attends the midnight mass in the church. Children sing Christmas carrots. Everybody prays that they may lead a happy life in the coming year.

The markets are very gaily decorated. Most of the big shops have special discounts and sales. Everybody gets into a frenzy of shopping. The whole atmosphere is carefree and gay. Christmas is indeed a beautiful festival.
