Florida State expected to offer job to Oregon's Willie Taggart

EUGENE -- Florida State is expected to offer Oregon coach Willie Taggart its vacant head coaching position, according to a Friday report by FootballScoop. 

The reported offer comes after Jimbo Fisher made a long-rumored move Friday and resigned from FSU to leave for Texas A&M, where he will reportedly become one of college football's richest coaches with an expected salary between $7 and $7.5 million annually. His departure has set off a ripple effect across college football that could lead to Taggart deciding whether to stay or leave after just one season in Eugene. Last weekend Oregon offered Taggart a contract extension worth more than $20 million over five years.

 But that would still be far less than what FSU can pay. Fisher earned $5.7 million this season, according to USA Today's coaching salary database. Yahoo Sports reported Friday that FSU will target two candidates to start: Taggart, and Virginia Tech coach Justin Fuente. Speaking Thursday evening to a group of board volunteers in downtown Portland, UO President Michael Schill said, "We love Willie. We hope Willie stays." Jimbo Fisher heads to Texas A&M after resigning at Florida State

Jimbo Fisher has resigned as head coach at Florida State to take the same job at Texas A&M, according to several reports on Friday. Fisher, 52, will not coach Florida State at Saturday's game against Louisiana-Monroe, ESPN notes.

 Fisher takes over after the Aggies fired Kevin Sumlin, who went 51-26 in six seasons at College Station. Florida State now will reportedly pursue Oregon Ducks coach Willie Taggart to fill their vacancy. Taggart has a 2 p.m. press
